The Bachelor of Arts Honours in Contemporary Art (SAQA ID 119134, NQF Level 8) is a postgraduate qualification designed for artists seeking to deepen their research-led artistic practice. Internationally referred to as a Contemporary Art Honors Degree, this programme culminates in the presentation of a focused body of original work.

The BA (HONS) Contemporary Art is strategically positioned for graduate students intending to advance their conceptual thinking abilities, artistic practice and research skills as a means to further their standing, both academically and professionally.

This programme aims to highlight the role and importance of artists as critical cultural workers as part of the institution’s mission to contribute to the growth and development of Contemporary Art discourse and practice on the African continent.

Students complete a self-directed research project supported by academic supervisors, contributing to contemporary art discourse within the African and global context.
