2025 matric exhibition

/ face of art & designfeaturedpast

For the past four years, the Face of Art & Design Matric Exhibition has stood as a prestigious highlight on the Western Cape Visual Arts and Design calendar. This flagship initiative is a collaboration between the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) and the Cape Town Creative Academy (CTCA), celebrating some of the most compelling creative work produced by South Africa’s emerging young artists and designers. In January 2026, the exhibition returns to CTCA’s main campus in Silo 5, presenting 42 outstanding Matric projects drawn from Visual Arts and Design schools across the province. Created by the Grade 12 class of 2025, these works have been carefully selected for their originality, narrative depth and bold creative risk-taking.

Celebrating student excellence

/ a year in review (2025)featured

As we step boldly into 2026, we do so with full hearts and immense pride. The past year has been nothing short of extraordinary for our students, our staff, and our creative community. Cape Town Creative Academy has once again solidified its place as one of the leading creative institutions on the continent, following a remarkable run of national and international recognition in 2025. But these achievements represent far more than trophies or titles. They speak to the courage, curiosity, and determination that define CTCA’s creative spirit. As South Africa’s youngest multi-award-winning creative institution, CTCA offers a collaborative, transdisciplinary, and student-centred education. We provide a nurturing, hands-on learning environment that challenges students to think differently, experiment boldly, and graduate with work-ready portfolios that shape the future of the creative industry. And in 2025, those bold thinkers shone brighter than ever.

Inside Solo Studios

/ meet our lecturers

From 24–26 October 2025, Solo Studios transformed Riebeek Kasteel & Riebeek West into a living gallery. Doors opened to art-lovers and collectors, conversations flowed, and creative processes took centre stage, showcasing talent and innovation. This immersive arts event offers a rare glimpse into the creative heart of this picturesque region. Held annually, it brings together a vibrant community of established and emerging artists who open their private studios (and galleries) to the public, inviting visitors into their personal creative spaces. This unique exhibition not only allows audiences to view and purchase exceptional pieces but also to engage directly with the artists, gaining insight into their inspirations, techniques, and processes.

Kamyar Bineshtarigh “Group show” Southern Guild

/ alumni spotlight

Contemporary Art Honours alumnus Kamyar Bineshtarigh presents a body of work that quietly upends exhibition conventions. His latest presentation, Group Show at Southern Guild (Silo 5, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town), reimagines the studio as an archive and the gallery as a site of careful salvage, becoming an elegant meditation on authorship, presence, preservation and impermanence. The exhibition runs 21 August–10 November 2025 and will be on view in Los Angeles from 13 September–4 November 2025.

Mhlo Zulu, Where do I sit and where am I seated?

/ alumni debut solo exhibition

Cape Town’s 99 Loop Gallery recently presented the debut solo exhibition of Cape Town Creative Academy Contemporary Art Honours alumnus Mhlonishwa Zulu, titled Where do I sit and where am I seated? (27 September to 25 October 2025). Mhlo exhibited a compelling body of his honours work as well as new paintings that extend his interest in narrative, symbolism and the strange, in-between spaces of everyday life.

Desiré and Kirstin Internship at Barrows

/ internship spotlight

Meet Desiré de Jonge and Kirstin Uys, two talented third-year Communication Design students at CTCA, currently interning at Barrows Global — a global leader in retail experience design. Barrows is no stranger to CTCA. Over the years, they have hosted regular industry talks on our campus, sharing insights into the fast-evolving retail landscape and recruiting directly from our talented student base. This ongoing relationship highlights the strong synergy between Barrows’ dynamic approach to retail innovation and CTCA’s multi-disciplinary creative degree programmes. Now, Desiré and Kirstin are experiencing that synergy first-hand. From high-impact display concepts to holistic store environments, they are gaining invaluable exposure to the principles of retail design — planning and creating spaces that engage shoppers and strengthen brand connections. Their experience perfectly embodies CTCA’s commitment to bridging education with professional practice.
