At the CTCA, we’re not just about creating beautiful images; we’re also about the exciting world of academic writing and research. As part of all of our degree programmes, you’ll learn the art of independent research and paper writing—skills that are absolutely essential. From nailing your writing style and perfecting your referencing to conducting top-notch research and reflecting deeply on your work, we’ve got you covered. Our research practice ethos is all about boosting your critical thinking and helping you express your unique ideas and experiences in a polished, academic way.
You’ll master the skills to independently research, evaluate, interpret, and critically analyse information, and then present it in well-structured arguments and compelling theoretically dense research papers. In the age of GenAI, we emphasise academic integrity and teach you the right way to cite your sources, even when you are using GenAI to assist your research and practice. Plus, you’ll develop the ability to stand out by turning your research into dynamic seminar presentations using top-notch rhetorical techniques which is really important when you are working with clients or galleries.
It’s deeply fulfilling (and fun!) to do an arts degree, but we’re sure your parents and friends worry that you’ll end up as a starving artist a la Van Gogh. Rest assured, we’re ready to future-proof you, and you’ll (very probably) come away with both ears. Business Studies (BS) and Professional Practice (PP) introduce you to the exciting – but sometimes daunting – world of professional life. Whilst very similar, BS is geared toward the design degrees, and PP is specific to the contemporary art students. In these courses, we start you on the road to making yourself an industry leader. These classes are designed to bring out your unique strengths, attributes, and interests, guiding you to think about your unique professional offerings. Through engaging activities and lively discussions, you’ll learn how to position yourself, and navigate how to maximise the unique value in your work.
