inspiring global art perspectives

For students at the Cape Town Creative Academy, the campus is strategically located within the V&A Waterfront’s Silo District, the heartbeat of Africa’s contemporary art scene.

By integrating local industry events, such as the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, into the curriculum, we ensure our graduates are well-positioned to enter the professional art world.

This immersion, combined with a transdisciplinary approach that rivals any traditional art school, ensures that our alumni are uniquely ready to enter the art world and have thriving careers.

But how does a physical location actually translate into a professional paycheck? The answer lies in the extended campus model that only the Silo District can provide.

Contemporary art student in practice.

The Silo District

Location is often treated as a footnote in higher education, but at the Cape Town Creative Academy, it is our most potent teaching tool. Situated adjacent to the Zeitz MOCAA, the world’s largest museum dedicated to contemporary art from Africa, our students exist in a constant state of professional osmosis. You will also find Berman Contemporary and Southern Guild galleries here.

For a student, this means grabbing your morning coffee alongside international curators. Your library is a world-class gallery circuit. For a parent, your child is not studying in a vacuum; they are networking in the very precinct where the global creative economy intersects.

One thing that CTCA taught me is that you have to be out there and on the ground. Theory is good but to execute and understand that theory requires experience. Every conversation, every opening attended, every artwork and artist engaged with is what grows you and reinforces your career” – Mhlonishwa Zulu CTCA BACA, Honours Alumna.

Parent Note: CTCA’s location ensures your student is visible to industry leaders from day one.

Integrating Industry

The The Contemporary Art Curriculum at CTCA is designed to be porous. During events like the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, our students engage in professional practice, assisting with installations, attending VIP talks, and analysing the commercial mechanics of the art market.

While a traditional art school might focus purely on technique, the CTCA bridges the gap between conceptual thinking, technical innovation, and developing a self-sustaining artistic practice.

This exposure is critical. It demystifies the art world and builds the soft skills of communication studies, the ability to articulate a vision, negotiate with a gallery owner, and understand the global art perspective.

Workplace-Ready Alumni

A common fear for creative students (and their parents) is the starving artist myth. At CTCA, we have spent 13 years dismantling that narrative. Our goal is simple: ensure that, after earning your degree, you are ready to enter the art world with a portfolio that commands respect.

Because our curriculum blends fine art grit with technical and professional proficiency, our graduates find meaningful career-building opportunities in:

  • Local and international art fairs; Local and international contemporary art galleries; Museums, institutions and publications
  • Commercial creative agencies and studios.

Join a community where your work is showcased in leading art hubs.

The Transdisciplinary Edge

While many young artists choose a specialised path, the CTCA offers students the opportunity and resources to develop a conceptually rigorous, multimodal approach to artistic practice.

The most successful artists of the future are those who don’t merely build a specific skill, but those who rather build a multidimensional practice grounded in the interweaving of thinking and doing.

Substance and Standards

We understand that choosing a private higher education institution is a significant decision. At the Cape Town Creative Academy, we prioritise academic rigour alongside creative freedom.

Our degrees are fully accredited (NQF Level 7), providing a clear articulation path for those who wish to pursue further studies or move directly into professional practice.

CTCA made me realise that sustaining a practice isn’t just about making good work, it’s about building a relationship between your work, your context, and your audience over time. It taught me that being an artist today also means being adaptable: understanding how to position your work, how to speak about it, and how to navigate different spaces without losing the core of what you’re trying to do. Sustainability feels less like stability and more like continuous negotiation” – Anine VD Berg – CTCA BACA Graduate.

A Global Perspective from a Local Hub

By situating our students at the epicentre of global art perspectives, we ensure they graduate with a worldview that is as expansive as the ocean views from our campus windows.

Whether you are a student ready to experiment boldly or a parent seeking a proven pathway to professional success, the Cape Town Creative Academy offers the substance, the location, and the industry connections to make it happen.

Don’t just watch the creative world from the sidelines. Inhabit it. Join us in the Silo District and build a career that lasts.

Designing with purpose

Elective Makers Lab

At Cape Town Creative Academy, students in the elective Makers Lab have taken their creative skills outside of the classroom, collaborating with the Orthocross Amputee Foundation to design prosthetic covers that go beyond functionality. Led by CTCA lecturer Phillip van der Walt, a product designer and artist specialising in CAD modelling and design for additive manufacturing, students designed and manufactured covers which allow amputees to express their individuality, their personal style, and feel confident, empowered, and proud of who they are.
