Celebrating student excellence

cape town creative academy's award-winning year in review

As we step boldly into 2026, we do so with full hearts and immense pride. The past year has been nothing short of extraordinary for our students, our staff, and our creative community.

Cape Town Creative Academy has once again solidified its place as one of the leading creative institutions on the continent, following a remarkable run of national and international recognition in 2025.

But these achievements represent far more than trophies or titles. They speak to the courage, curiosity, and determination that define CTCA’s creative spirit.

As South Africa’s youngest multi-award-winning creative institution, CTCA offers a collaborative, transdisciplinary, and student-centred education .

We provide a nurturing, hands-on learning environment that challenges students to think differently, experiment boldly, and graduate with work-ready portfolios that shape the future of the creative industry. And in 2025, those bold thinkers shone brighter than ever.

Cape Town Creative Academy wins big at the Loeries, a red-carpet triumph

The Loeries remain one of Africa and the Middle East’s most prestigious accolades, celebrating the very best in brand communication, design, and storytelling. This year, our students didn’t just attend the ceremony; they owned the moment.

Confident and radiant on the red carpet, CTCA students proved that passion and perseverance pay off. Their efforts were recognised with four Bronze Loeries for our Communication Design students, Alice Bosch, Tiana Faber, Jaime Farara, Ivy Song and one Silver Loerie for Kent Jordan.

This is a testament to exceptional creativity and the guidance of dedicated lecturers. To say we are proud is an understatement.

Celebrating indigenous language excellence with Pendoring Silver

The Pendoring Awards champion South Africa’s rich linguistic heritage, spotlighting creativity rooted in indigenous languages. This year, we were thrilled to see CTCA talent take the stage once more.

Viola Motlhabi, a 3rd-year Communication Design student, earned a Silver Pendoring Award for her stunning project Calendar Chrono Roots. This calendar tenderly explores the intersections of time, memory, and cultural ancestry.

Her work is a powerful reminder that design can honour the past while imaginatively shaping the future.

AdFocus Student of the Year Award - A four-year streak of excellence

The FM AdFocus Awards have become one of the most respected platforms for highlighting emerging talent within South Africa’s marketing and communications industry. And in 2025, CTCA continued its tradition of standing at the very top.

Two of our 3rd-year Communication Design students, Abigael Cassell and Alice Bosch, were shortlisted in the top three for the AdFocus Student of the Year Award. This alone is an exceptional achievement.

But the celebrations didn’t end there.

Abigael Cassell claimed the coveted title of AdFocus Student of the Year, recognised for the best student portfolio in the country.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that a CTCA student has taken home this prestigious honour, an incredible milestone for our institution.

We are deeply proud of our students, lecturers , and the supportive CTCA community that continues to nurture such extraordinary talent.

Looking ahead, creativity shapes the future

These award wins are more than accolades; they are a testament to what young creatives can achieve when they are supported, challenged, and empowered to explore boldly.

In 2025, our students demonstrated that imagination is a powerful force and that CTCA is a place where it flourishes.

As we enter 2026, we do so energised by their success, committed to our mission, and excited to see the next generation of visionaries step forward.

Here’s to another year of innovation, collaboration, and creative courage. And here’s to the students who continue to make CTCA shine.

Designing with purpose

Elective Makers Lab

At Cape Town Creative Academy, students in the elective Makers Lab have taken their creative skills outside of the classroom, collaborating with the Orthocross Amputee Foundation to design prosthetic covers that go beyond functionality. Led by CTCA lecturer Phillip van der Walt, a product designer and artist specialising in CAD modelling and design for additive manufacturing, students designed and manufactured covers which allow amputees to express their individuality, their personal style, and feel confident, empowered, and proud of who they are.
