Admission to the CTCA is a selection-based process, and requires a portfolio to be submitted along with your application. It is advisable to apply as soon as possible as we have limited intake. To secure your spot, make sure your application is in before the end of November of the year preceding the commencement of study. Late applications will be considered subject to available places before the commencement of classes.

The CTCA admits applicants based on their academic record, artistic inclination, and general aptitude towards design.
In order to be admitted for degree studies at the CTCA, a candidate must have:
a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with an APS of at least 22. Applications must include the applicant’s most recent Grade 12 academic report to calculate the APS according to the table provided.
have obtained Matriculation exemption, as this is a requirement for degree studies. Applicants over 23 years of age, without Matric exemption, will also be considered based on mature or current competence and must apply for RPL.
be proficient in English. Since English is the language of instruction, applicants are required to complete English in matric (as first or second language), with a minimum result of 50%.
In order to apply at the CTCA, an international candidate:
must be proficient in English. If the applicant has completed their secondary education in a non-English speaking country, a language proficiency certificate will be required.
a SAQA certificate validating their qualification. Applicants whose qualifications were issued by an international institution must submit their qualifications – translated to English – to SAQA for evaluation to determine/validate the NQF level of the qualification. Students are advised to submit their qualifications to SAQA as soon as possible in order for them to issue the evaluation certificate as it is required before registration. RPL & CAT
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Applicants with prior academic qualifications and/or industry experience may apply for RPL.
Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT)
The Cape Town Creative Academy awards CAT to students who wish to transfer from other tertiary institutions offering similar programmes. RPL requirements apply.
Recognition of prior learning is granted based on:
academic achievements
practical experience (vocational competence)
a combination of the above

Once you have designed your dream path, compile a portfolio consisting of five art or design projects that best showcase your creativity, conceptual thinking, and problem-solving skills. Projects can be in any medium, ranging from writing, sculptures, drawing, painting, illustrations, and animations, to 3D modelling, photography and video. We also accept process boards or storyboards. If physical objects, these must be presented as either good quality photographs or scans. File size may not exceed 5MB each (PDF, JPG, PNG or videos in mp4 format).

Our selection panel considers each and every application, individually and with care. We will email you with the decision of the panel, whether successful or not. Successful applicants will receive an acceptance letter, and be provided with a link to register for their intended course of study.
